Onion Purple Blotch Disease: Symptoms and Management

Purple blotch is a destructive fungal disease of onion plants that affects leaves and bulbs, leading to poor plant health and yield.

Leaves: Appear as a white  elliptical lesion, later turns black velvety which starts from the tip and spreads towards the base of the leaf.

Symptoms

Bulbs: It shows symptoms of watery rot and drying of scales leading to loose its market value.

Management

Rotate onions with non-related crops for at least three years to reduce pathogen buildup in the soil.

High nitrogen levels can make plants more susceptible to purple blotch. Use balanced fertilization.

Foliar spray of chemical fungicides like Custodia at 300 ml/ Acre or Score at 200 ml/ Acre.
