How to Grow Watermelon at Home on Your Terrace

Watermelon are juicy, sweet and super hydrating fruit in summers. Learn how to grow watermelons on your terrace garden by following these easy steps

Get good quality watermelon seeds from a market or save some watermelon seeds from a healthy watermelon fruit

Step 1:

Make sure the container where your planning to grow the fruit is atleast 18 inches wide and 15 inches deep, as watermelons need space to grow

Step 2:

Make the soil rich by mixing the soil with compost, cocopeat and perlite. Add this soil mix in the container

Step 3:

Scatter the seeds randomly in the container and spread a thin layer of soil over the seeds. Pour water over it later for better setting

Step 4:

Keep the container is a space where the seedlings can get atleast 4-6 hours of sunlight. This is essential for better germination

Step 5:

During the germination phase water only once a day and increase the frequency as the plant grows.

Step 6:

For better growth of the plant, application of vermicompost or liquid based fertilizer in moderation is proved to be helpful

Step 7:

As the plant grows, it bears two kinds of flowers. Those are male and female flowers, rub it against each other for pollination

Step 8:

After the pollination is complete, the plant takes 3-4 months for the fruit to be ready to harvest which is much shorter than other fruits
