Blue Revolution-Initiative For Growth of Aquaculture
Blue Revolution also called as Nili Kranti Mission in India was launched in 1985-1990. The main objective is to develop, manage, and promote fisheries.
1. Increased Fish Production:
India’s fish production reached an all-time high of 162.48 lakh tons in 2021-22, showing a growth of 10.34%.
2. Technological Advancements:
Newer, smarter technologies are being applied to modernize fisheries, which helps to reduce overfishing & maximize value
3. Government Initiatives:
Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMMSY).
4. Infrastructure Development:
Investments in fisheries infrastructure include fish landing centers, hatcheries, and cold storage.
5. Sustainable Practices:
The Blue Revolution promotes sustainable fishing to protect marine ecosystems, prevent overfishing, and enhance biodiversity.
