Bordeaux Mixture: Preparation and Agricultural Benefits

Bordeaux mixture is a copper-based fungicide. It is widely used in vineyards, plantations, fruit and vegetable gardens to prevent fungal diseases.

1. Dissolve 100g of copper sulfate in 5L of water in a container and 100g of quicklime in 5L of water in another container.

Preparation

2. Pour copper sulfate solution into lime solution, stir continuously and maintain neutral pH of the solution before application of the mixture.

3. Metal containers and stirrer should not be used as the mixture is corrosive against metal so use earthen, wooden or plastic containers.

Application

Spray the mixture on plants before the onset of disease, to prevent fungal diseases in major crops like grapes, potatoes, tomatoes etc.

Uses:

1.It is used to prevent and treat many broad-spectrum fungal diseases in crops. 2.It helps in treating wounds on trees to prevent fungal infections.
