Enhancing Plant Growth with Effective Grafting Methods
Grafting is a technique that involves joining two plants (the upper section scion with the lower section stock) together to create a new plant.
A technique where a cleft or split is made in the rootstock, & the scion is inserted into the cleft. Used for top-working older trees
1. Cleft Grafting:
2. Whip & Tongue Grafting:
It involves an interlocking tongue and notch in the scion with corresponding cuts in rootstock to give structural support.
3. Splice Grafting:
Similar to whip grafting but without the tongue cut. It’s suitable for herbaceous plants like tomatoes and cucumbers.
4. Side-Veneer Grafting:
A side cut is made on the rootstock, and the scion is inserted into this cut. Used in conifers and ornamental plants.
5. Side Grafting:
The scion is inserted into a side cut on the rootstock, ideal for small plants or when the rootstock is too thick for other methods.
Conclusion
Grafting combines plant traits for better growth and yield. Mastering techniques of grafting enhances your garden’s potential.
