How to Prepare Compost from Kitchen Waste in Balcony
The process of preparing manure from kitchen waste is an eco-friendly way to recycle organic materials. Here is the procedure for composting
Select a location in the balcony for installing the compost bin, ensuring good drainage and aeration
1. Install Compost Bin
Collect kitchen scrap (dried leaves) as brown material and (fruit/veg peels) as green materials in 3:1 ratio for composting
2. Gather Kitchen Waste
Place a layer of brown materials at bottom and add layer of green materials. Repeat it ensuring each layer is 2-3 inches for better aeration
3. Piling
Keep it moist to boost the growth of beneficial microorganisms responsible for breaking the organic matter for composting
4. Maintain moisture
Turn compost for 2-3 weeks for proper aeration and to fasten the decomposition process
5. Flip the compost
It is a natural process that takes weeks to months depending on factors like temperature and the size of bin to get compost ready
