Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme, launched in 1998 by the Indian government, offers flexible credit to farmers. Apply through your bank or financial institution.

Scheme Overview

Loan Amount: Farmers can avail of loans up to Rs. 3 lakhs to meet their financial needs, supporting agricultural activities.


No Collateral for Smaller Loans: For loans up to Rs. 1.60 lakhs, no collateral is required, easing the burden on farmers.

Card Validity and Review: The Kisan Credit Card is valid for 5 years with an annual review to ensure continued eligibility and creditworthiness.

ATM-enabled RuPay Card: The KCC comes with an ATM-enabled RuPay Card, providing farmers with convenient access to their funds.

Insurance Coverage: Offers insurance up to Rs. 50,000 for permanent disability/death and up to Rs. 25,000 for other risks, ensuring a safety net.

Interest Subvention: Farmers who repay on time receive an additional 3% interest subvention, reducing the effective interest rate to 4% per annum.


Comprehensive Coverage: Credit can be used for crop cultivation, post-harvest expenses, marketing loans, household needs, farm maintenance, and allied activities.

No Collateral Required: For loans up to Rs. 1.60 lakhs, farmers do not need to provide collateral, making credit more accessible.

Accessible Credit: Ensures timely and adequate credit for farmers, allowing them to meet various agricultural and allied needs efficiently.

Affordable and Incentivized Rates: Offers a 7% interest rate with an additional 3% subvention for timely repayments, reducing the effective rate to 4%.


While beneficial for many, the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme may not be useful for those not engaged in agriculture, allied activities, non-farming, animal husbandry, or fisheries.

Application Process

Step 1: Visit the website or branch of the bank or financial institution offering the KCC scheme.

Step 2: Obtain the Kisan Credit Card application form.

Step 3: Fill in the required details accurately, providing the necessary information about your  agricultural activities and financial needs.

Step 4: Attach the required documents, such as proof of identity, proof of address and land documents.

Step 5: Submit the completed application form along with the documents to the bank or financial institution.

Step 6: The bank or financial institution will process the application and issue the Kisan Credit Card within 14 days.
