The Art of Pearl Cultivation: A Journey from Oyster to Gem

What is Pearl Cultivation? Pearl cultivation is the process of inducing pearl formation by inserting a tiny nucleus into an oyster.

1. Selecting the Oysters

The journey begins with selecting healthy, mature oysters that are ready for cultivation.

2. Inserting the Nucleus

A tiny bead of mantle tissue is inserted into the oyster’s shell. This nucleus will serve as the core around which the pearl forms.

3.  Nurturing the Oysters

The oysters are placed in clean, nutrient-rich waters and closely monitored for optimal pearl formation.

4. Growth and Development

Over time, the oyster secretes layers of nacre around the nucleus, slowly forming a pearl.

5. Harvesting the Pearls

When the pearls are ready, oysters are harvested and opened to reveal the pearls.

6. Cleaning and Sorting

After harvesting, pearls are cleaned and sorted based on size, shape, luster, and color.
